Your Medical Records
The Whitehorse Practice is one of the leaders in General Practice computing in Croydon. We have been using computers since 1985 and moved to our present system - INPS Vision - in 1996. The system is regularly updated and is now electronically linked to the Croydon Primary Care Trust, Mayday Hospital and the National (NHS Data) Spine.
Information from hospitals
All medical records are kept on the computer and the paper notes are summarised into the system. Mail from hospitals and clinics is scanned into the computer and an image of the original letter is filed electronically. Hospital test results arrive at the surgery electronically and are automatically filed into the system.
At the surgery
In consultation, all the records are entered into the computer which is the only record maintained by the Practice. The information is printed out completely and forwarded to your new GP if you move to a new Practice.
Electronic Booking
The Whitehorse Practice was the second Vision Practice in the country to use the new national Choose and Book system within Vision. Some clinics can be booked whilst you are actually in the surgery and the Practice was also a local pilot for a system which allows you to choose a hospital appointment which is convenient for you.
The Practice also has access to some of Mayday's information about you and can check on clinic times, admissions to hospital and Casualty attendances.
Analysing Information
The Practice is the lead Practice in developing anonymised electronic data extraction for Croydon Practices. We are now able to compare our performance with other Practices across Croydon and monitor the quality of the care we provide to patients with long-term illnesses. The Practice also has a suite of audit tools to ensure patients are recalled for the correct tests and procedures at the right time.
On line prescriptions
The Practice has worked with Croydon Primary Care Trust and its partners to develop on-line services such as prescription ordering. The Whitehorse Practice was the first in Croydon to offer this facility.
